  7. This  is  a  small README file.  See Artic.guide and ArticManager.guide for
  8. more  detailed  instructions and the legal informations that are considered
  9. accepted by you if you use the program.

  11.                                REQUIREMENTS
  12.  
  13. Artic requires Kickstart V37 (release 2.04) or above.
  14.

  16.                                WHAT IS ARTIC
  17.  
  18. Artic   is   a  device  based  compressor,  like  Stacker  on  the  PCs  or
  19. CopressDisk.Device or DiskExpander.., but with some different features that
  20. make it easier, more practical and faster to use:
  21.  
  22.   * FAST compression, VERY FAST decompression.
  23.  
  24.   * ability to use the external compression libraries XPK plus
  25.     two internal methods.
  26.  
  27.   * no need to compress a whole partition.
  28.  
  29.   * user-friendly program to handle operations, that can use MUI.
  30.  
  31.   * files are stored as FILES not as Tracks.
  32.  
  33.   * both compressed and uncompressed files are handled.

  38.                            HOW TO INSTALL ARTIC
  39.  
  40. Installing  Artic  is  very simple.  Just DoubleClick the installation icon
  41. (named  Install_Artic) in the directory where the installation files reside
  42. and   follow  the  instructions.   If  you  have  the  command  RequestFile
  43. installed, you will be asked where to put the new cli commands, the manager
  44. and  the  help  files,  otherwise these files will be copied in the default
  45. drawers   (c:,Sys:prefs,s:).    The   installation   script  will  make  an
  46. Un-Installation script named s:Uninstall_Artic.

  49.                      THIS IS A SHAREWARE DEMO VERSION
  50.  
  51. There are some limitation in this demo version:
  52.  
  53.   * No files bigger than 100KB allowed.
  54.  
  55.   * Info Requesters popping up time to time while using the device.
  56.  
  57.   * NO processor optimized code. (plain 68000)
  58.
